Holly Thomas found herself in an awkward situation on a three-hour flight after making a blunt five-word remark about another passenger. As she was boarding, a man behind her sharply told her to "sit down". She complied and the man proceeded further into the plane.

When the woman seated next to Thomas enquired about the incident, she candidly responded with a terse comment regarding the man: "He was a bit rude". To her dismay, the CNN columnist soon discovered that the man she had just described as rude returned to sit between her and the other woman.

It turned out that the woman Thomas had spoken to was actually the man's wife, who had apparently gone to find their seats while he attended to other tasks, reports the Express. Ms Thomas shared the uncomfortable experience on X (formerly known as Twitter), recounting: "Just boarded a three-hour flight. A man in the queue ordered me to "sit down" very brusquely before moving further down the plane.

"The woman next to me asked what had happened. I replied "he was a bit rude." He has returned and is now sitting between us. He and the woman are married." Following the flight, she updated her followers, noting: "We were all scrupulously polite for the entire flight and are now ignoring each other on the shuffle bus."

Sharing in the collective empathy, others tweeted their cringe-inducing moments. One lady shared: "About 20 years ago I told a man looking for directions to my computer class that the teacher never shut up. He sat down in the class and she introduced him as her husband."

Another one chimed in saying: "I once held the lift for someone on crutches who was trying as best he could to rush and catch the lift." A woman recounted that: "A woman in the lift said grumpily just leave them to get the next one I've got an appointment in 10 mins. Turns out she was my first candidate for a nursing job! Her face".

An individual also wrote: "At a work "gala," I once saw a very, obviously intoxicated man hanging all over my older coworker, who seemed incredibly displeased." "I pulled her aside to ask if she needed me to make him leave. It was her husband! ! I was so embarrassed but she agreed he was acting horribly."
