WARRINGTON will once again play host to the Women’s Rugby League Nines tournament next month.

Following a successful staging last year, Victoria Park will host the group stages on Sunday, May 5, with 16 teams in action.

Warrington Wolves and their seven Betfred Women’s Super League rivals will take part alongside teams from the regional Championships including Leigh Leopards, Widnes Vikings and Telford Raiders.

Play will run from 10.30am to 4pm with entry on the day free of charge.

The Wire have been drawn in Group One alongside Leigh, Widnes and reigning BWSL champions York Valkyrie.

Teams have been drawn into four groups of four with the top team from each – plus two wildcards – making it through to Finals Day on Saturday 27 July.

“We’re really excited to bring the Women’s Nines back to Victoria Park,” RFL head of development Tom Brindle said.

“Nines is an exciting spectacle, and we’ll see lots of fantastic players showcasing their skills on the day.

“As we saw last year through teams like Wigan Warriors and Cardiff Demons, this format can be extremely competitive and is a great opportunity for younger players to introduce themselves, so I would urge fans to come down and experience it for themselves.

“There will be a real festival feel once again this year, so it should be a great day.”
