WORKINGTON Amateur Boxing Club enjoyed a 'fabulous' weekend at the Manchester Box Cup with its fighters amongst the medals.

The West Cumbrian ABC claimed seven medals at the event that took place on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 30 at Leigh Sports Village - the home of Manchester United's academy teams and women's team.

Workington ABC had six fighters in action at the box cup, with these Cumbrians scooping two gold medals and five silver medals in their respective categories.

Kayla Dryden boxed in two finals over the two days, winning the under-48kg final on day one before missing out on double gold with a hotly contested fight on day two in the under-50kg category which was decided by a split judge's decision.

Also in action were Marshall Miller who secured gold, 'Lightning' Leon Emerson, Elliot 'Menace' Murray, and the experienced 'Check Up' Cayden Shepherd.

After the successful weekend in Greater Manchester, Workington ABC head coach Joe Dryden congratulated all of the local fighters that were involved.

"What a fitting way to finish the season, with all boxers doing the club proud and setting the pathway for what will be a massive 2024/25 season after a little rest.

"We will be hitting preseason hard."

Workington ABC were also keen to give a shout-out to coaches Joe Alan Dain and Graham for looking after, preparing, and transporting the boxers as well as the travelling Shepherds, Drydens and Millers for supporting all the boxers all weekend.
