World Cup 2022: Final result and standings Argentina beat France to claim third title in Qatar
Argentina lifted the World Cup for the third time after beating France in a sensational final.
Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick to cancel out goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria though Les Bleus lost their title in a penalty shootout.
Messi, playing in his last ever World Cup, finally captured the one trophy to have eluded him thus far and matched the iconic Diego Maradona, who led Argentina to their second title in 1986.
The 35-year-old was handed the Golden Ball award for the second time in his career having previously won it in 2014.
Mbappe, meanwhile, won the Golden Boot with eight goals to Messi’s seven.
Emi Martinez won the Golden Glove award with Enzo Fernandez winning the Young Player of the Tournament as Argentina conquered world football once more.
On Saturday, Croatia were confirmed as the third-placed team after beating Morocco, who had already made history as the most successful ever African side at a World Cup.
