World media gives reaction to Scotland vs Switzerland draw as Swiss THANK Anthony Ralston

Swiss media have thanked Tony Ralston for his blooper that allowed Xherdan Shaqiri to equalise in last night's clash.

Scotland had taken the lead through Scott McTominay but in the end both sides had to settle for a point, that is no disaster for either, after the winger's arrowed strike into the top corner. Ralston recovered from his error to have a decent second half but that didn't stop a Swiss publication from highlighting it.

Our performance against Germany had turned us into a bit of a laughing stock of the tournament so far after game day one, so last night's battling display restored a bit of pride. But was it enough to convince other nations of the quality we all know we posses? Let's have a look at some of the reaction around the world.

Blick (Switzerland)

Thank you, Anthony Ralston. And thank you, Xherdan Shaqiri. Ralston's disastrous back pass became the perfect pass for Shaqiri. The 32-year-old's dream shot from 18m hits the crossbar perfectly. An unstoppable stroke of genius. Scottish defender Ralston plays a pass into the centre that would have earned the boot from even a junior team. Shaqiri doesn't care: he smells a rat and scores miraculously.

Bild (Germany)

Scotland is still in the race thanks to the point and could also book their ticket at the end with a win against Hungary. After an evenly matched first half, both sides had their good phases in the second half. The best Swiss chance fell to Ndoye, who pushed the ball past the goal from 17 meters. Hanley came close to scoring the winner for the Scots, but his header only hit the post. So the bottom line is an overall fair draw that allows both teams to keep dreaming.

Gazetta dello Sport (Italy)

Nobody wins, but perhaps nobody regrets it that much. Switzerland does not do so, which remains the second force in group A and is destined to remain so, barring incredible results. Ultimately, neither does Scotland, who remain absolutely in the running to qualify for the round of 16 at least among the best third-placed teams, playing it all against Hungary. We could have expected a wait-and-see attitude from Steve Clarke's national team, which instead is absolutely not submissive. Thus, the goals both arrive in the first half. McTominay thanks Schar, who decisively deflects a harmless shot past Sommer. Shaqiri instead takes advantage of an incorrect touch from the Scottish defence to invent a ballistic feat from him.

L'Equipe (France)

At the end of a committed and lively match, Switzerland took a very big step towards the round of 16. Jostled by a valiant Scottish team, the national team held on at the end of the match. On the other hand, Scotland are still alive, but will have to win against Hungary to hope to reach the eighth.
