Wydra opens up season with honors

Jan. 30—THOMASVILLE- AJ Wydra was selected as the SSAC Pitcher Of The Week, for games played through January 28, 2024.

During the first game, of a doubleheader for Thomas, against Paine College, Wydra struck out 9 Lions, in 5.2 innings, while only allowing one earned run. The performance help the Night Hawks secure the victory in game one of the doubleheader, 4-2. The Night Hawks would go on to win the nightcap, also.

For Wydra, this is his first Pitcher Of The Week honor. The sophomore was the 2023 Sun Conference Freshman Of The Year. Wydra hopes to continue his success as the Night Hawks transition into the Southern States Athletic Conference.

The Night Hawks will begin their home schedule, this weekend, with a three-game series against Talladega. The action begins on Friday at 4 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday, with a double-header, starting at 1 p.m. The action will take place at Varnedoe Stadium.
