LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

NO COMMENT (Aintree 1.40) was made favourite for the Grade 2 Persian War novices’ hurdle at Chepstow but having been held up, he blundered at the second flight and unshipped Barry Geraghty. That was only his second run over hurdles, having finished second at Wetherby in heavy ground in January. Tough he won a bumper at Punchestown in April, for all intents and purposes, this will be his first race since April but he holds every chance now upped to 2m4f in this maiden.

BAGAD BIHOUE (Wincanton 4.05) takes a jump down in class and he should be far too good for his five rivals in the 1m7f novices’ hurdle. He won his previous three starts over hurdles before failing to fire in the Grade 2 Persian War at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago. While he has to concede a stone or more, Jack Sherwood’s 5lb claim negates the continued hike in the handicap.

BILLY MY BOY (Wincanton 4.40) has a fair chance of taking the 1m7f handicap hurdle for trainer Chris Down. The seven-year-old was a fair second to The Way You Dance over 2m at Worcester last month, but upped 2lb at Exeter and in first-time blinkers, he was a little disappointing when third to Karl Marx. The blinkers are dispensed with in favour of cheek-pieces and James Davies is an interesting jockey booking for a gelding who still looks fairly handicapped.

BEGGARS CROSS (Aintree 4.25), winner of a bumper on his debut, the six-year-old opened his account over hurdles at Warwick in April, scoring by 10 lengths. There was nothing wrong with his subsequent fourth to Marquis Of Carabis in a novices’ hurdle at the same track in May, but chasing has always been the aim for this son of Presenting. He makes his debut in a 3m1f novices’ chase and while the opposition comprises the likes of progressive Pawn Star and What Happens Now, the Jonjo O’Neill-trained six-year-old may be the value.
