Our NAP struck again on Friday, to take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Friday, January 13, 2017.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

ETTU (Lingfied Park 2.35) is taking a little time to know what this game is all about. She was well backed to land a 7f fillies’ maiden here over 7f last time and after making the running, showing distinct signs of greenness, was collared by Sayem. Her previous effort, in a similar event at Newmarket was a fair effort, but again she had to play second fiddle to Yellowhammer. Time will probably show that was a good race, and Jeremy Noseda’s daughter of Excelebration is worth another try now that she steps up to 1m with Jamie Spencer in the saddle.

BALLYCROSS (Warwick 3.35) is a little young at six to be winning a race like the Classic Chase, given that the 3m5f handicap can turn into something of a war of attrition at this time of year and more seasoned, battle-hardened types usually hold sway. However, this has traditionally been a race where those with low weights prevail and shouldering just 10st 8lb, he may be worth chancing. He is, however, relatively inexperienced and has yet to win over fences, yet there was plenty to like about the way he stayed on behind Pobbles Bay in a decent novices’ handicap at Chepstow last time. If his jumping holds up, he would be in the mix, as he has won over 3m in heavy ground over hurdles and looks an out-and-out stayer in the making.

GREY GOLD (Wetherby 2.15) may be 12 now, but Kerry Lee’s gelding can still mix it among the best handicap chasers and looks attractively handicapped to land the 1m7f handicap chase. He may well have needed his first run back after eight months off when fifth to Aso at Chepstow late last month and the 2m3f trip may well have stretched his stamina. His last win came in November 2015 at Newbury over 2m½f off a mark of 147 and he runs off 3lb lower today as he takes on five rivals.

KRUZHLININ (Kempton Park 3.15) won on his stable debut in the corresponding 3m handicap chase last year off a mark of 138 and will try to repeat the feat on an 8lb higher mark today. The Philip Hobbs-trained 10-year-old was having is first run for 11 months when scoring like a good horse over these fances and did not run badly in the Grade 3 Ultima at Cheltenham thereafter, finishing fifth off of 148. Last time he took advantage of a mark of 136 to beat Theo’s Charm in a slog over 2m7f at Haydock, with subsequent Tommy Whittle scorer Yala Enke third. He has had a decent break since, so should be fresh and the ground may be ideal for him.
