LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

WOWCHA (Sandown 4.40) has yet to figure in handicap since winning her maiden at Pontefract in April, but there is every reason to think she will be competitive in the finale at the Esher track this 7f afternoon. John Quinn’s representative has been twice a beaten favourite since scoring over 6f in heavy ground, the first time when ridden too conservatively at Leicester over 7f and then when hampered back over 6f at Nottingham. She is better than those performances indicated and there are plenty out of form rivals to take on.

MUHAAFIZ (York 2.35) won a fair handicap at Hamilton over 1m1f a week ago and did so in good style, staying on strongly in first-time cheekpieces. Having been tried previously over further, the drop in trip appears to have been a boon to David Baron’s four-year-old. The son of Lord Shanakill carries a penalty for his win, but may be able to follow up in the 1m2f handicap.

PALING (Goodwood 7.20) looks the answer in the trappy-looking 1m2f handicap. Though he won a modest three-year-old handicap at Brighton last month, he settled well without the hood that had been fitted previously and appeared to relish the uphill climb. That was only his fifth start for Roger Charlton and he appears to have plenty of stamina in his pedigree, so should be of interest later on when stepped up in trip. He sports a visor for the first time tonight, largely because he was pricking his ears and dossing when he hit the front at Brighton.

MRS BURBIDGE (Newton Abbot 4.30) has won just one of her eight attempts over hurdles, but appears to have a decent chance of following up her 2m handicap win at Towcester. Neil Mulholland’s mare had been in good form on the all-weather before scoring in decisive fashion and she escapes a penalty. Indeed, the yard’s runners have been in tip-top order recently and while she steps up to 2m5½f today, it should suit her.
