LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

EKHTIYAAR (Yarmouth 2.10) appears to hold an obvious chance of getting off the mark at the second time of asking in the 6f maiden. Roger Varian’s representative, who cost 110,000 guineas as a yearling, is a half-brother to Group 3-winning juvenile New Providence and made his debut here when beaten three-quarters of a length by Battered. He did not get the best of runs that day, having been stopped briefly and was beaten by a horse with more experience. Dane O’Neill should steer him to victory this time.

FIRST VOYAGE (Windsor 2.30) can take Division One of the 1m maiden for Charlie Appleby and Adam Kirby. The three-year-old gelded son of Dubawi, who is closely related to 6f-1m6f winner Polarisation was very popular in the market ahead of his Pontefract debut, but was very slowly away and had to be taken wide off the bend, eventually going down by a length and a half to the more experienced Kullu. This is a similar event and he will have learned much from his debut.

MASTERSON (Windsor 5.00) has been a model of consistency since landing a minor 1m3½f handicap at Lingfield in August, before following up at Newcastle (2m½f) on the all-weather the following month. He has risen 11lb since his first success and while the handicapper has taken a hold, he has been in the first three in his three subsequent starts off today’s mark of 66. Mick Channon’s horses are in fine fettle at present and Graham Lee, who last night revealed he is another high-profile sportsman to have been battling depression, takes the ride. The selection should give another good account of himself in the 1m3½f handicap.

GO ON GAL (Yarmouth 5.10) is a maiden after nine starts, but has been runner-up on four of her last six runs and was third in another. Arguably her best run came at this track in July, when chasing home Patanjali. The Julia Field-trained three-year-old is no star, but granted a decent pace, she should take a hand in the finish of the 1m3f handicap, with the added bonus of Shelley Birkett taking off 3lb.
