Take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British and Irish meetings on Thursday, May 5, 2016…

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

AMERICAN ARTIST (Chester 2.10) was having his first start since September when just failing to hold off Hit The Jackpot at Doncaster and may be able to go one better in the opening 1m2f handicap. Andrea Atzeni’s mount has gone off favourite for all but two of his previous 10 starts and has won four of them, the last coming off a mark of 84, 9lb less than he runs off today. Roger Varian’s four-year-old still looks progressive, however, and there should be more to come.

STARCHITECT (Newton Abbot 3.20) was fifth of 26 in the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and beaten a similar distance when third of 22 to Party Rock in a Group 3 handicap hurdle at Aintree. David Pipe’s five-year-old has faced some tough opposition and has been consistent and unlucky in equal measure. He takes a drop in class today and while giving weight away in the 2m5½f handicap, this looks a decent opportunity for a confidence-boosting victory.

APPLESOLUTELY (Uttoxeter 5.15) makes her debut under Rules for Philip Hobbs in a mares’ bumper, having won two of her four point-to-points and finished runner-up in the other two. Her dam was an unraced sister to 2m4f-3m hurdle winner What An Oscar, so she should come into her own when she goes hurdling. However, she has enough experience to mix it with some newcomers from similarly big stables and is worth a look in the finale.

US ARMY RANGER (Chester 3.10) is going to be a short price to follow up victory on his only start and conditions are likely to be much different in the Cheater Vase to what they were at the Curragh when scoring in heavy ground early last month. A Galileo colt out of Irish Oaks winner Moonstone, US Army Ranger is bred in the purple and there is no doubt he is thought highly of at home. However, as with yesterday’s Chester scorer Somehow, the master of Ballydoyle brings his Classic crop to Chester for much-needed experience – they are educated to a track that is constantly on the turn and there is always plenty of noise. There is no doubt O’Brien would have wanted this colt to have more experience before heading to Epsom, but if he comes through this steep learning curve, he will be near the head of the Derby market.
