LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

SEPTEMBER STARS (Goodwood 4.00) holds an entry in the Oaks, but is on something of a retrieval mission in the 10f Listed Height Of Fashion Stakes after being beaten at odds-on in a maiden at Nottingham last month. She had shown plenty of promise on her debut when third in a Doncaster fillies’ maiden last October when with Brian Meehan. Now with Ralph Beckett, she did not quite see out the 10f trip on her seasonal return, having travelled well through much of the race. She races against her own sex again and holds a reasonable chance of getting off the mark.

PRIMITIVO (Sandown 7.30) bids for a hat-trick, having scored at Windsor (8.5f) In October and on his seasonal return for Alan King at Newbury (1m3f) six days ago in a well-contested handicap for the grade. The selection gelded in the winter and it seems to have concentrated his mind. Up 7lb for his Windsor nursery win, he made a mockery of his mark of 81, winning with his head in his chest, and should be able to win again under a 6lb penalty before he is reassessed by the handicapper.

ALWAYS RESOLUTE (Ripon 7.20) had been running well over hurdles after joining Brian Ellison and he made a winning return to the Flat at Doncaster last Saturday when landing a 17-runner apprentices’ handicap with ease, his stamina helping him ease clear in the final half furlong of the 1m4f contest. He escapes a penalty for that success and the improving five-year-old should be right at home over tonight’s extra two furlongs.

CALCULATED RISK (Worcester 3.50) was beaten 10 lengths by Fountains Blossom (who re-opposes) in a selling hurdle here last week but Debra Hamer’s seven-year-old is now 6lb better off. He was made favourite that day, having won a couple of sellers and then ran well I handicap company, but having travelled very well into the race, his run petered out towards the finish. This claimer does not look particularly strong and he can turn the tables over the same 2m4f trip.
