York City boss' son signs new long-term deal with Premier League club

JACK Hinshelwood, son of York City manager Adam, has signed a new long-term contract with Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 18-year-old, who has been with the Seagulls since the age of eight, has extended his contract to remain with the club until June 2028.

A versatile midfielder, Hinshelwood has made 17 appearances in his breakthrough season, scoring against Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford.

However, he is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery on a stress fracture in his foot, last playing for the club in their 4-1 triumph against Palace on March 2.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi enthused to the club: “I am very happy for Jack and for his family, he has shown what a top player he is and he deserves this new contract.

“We miss him a lot and are look forward to having him back fit and ready to play.”

Hinshelwood made his Premier League debut on the final day of last season in a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

His first full appearance came in September, and he was rewarded with his first England Under 19 call-up the same month.

The academy product has also featured for Brighton in the Europa League, making his competition debut in their 1-0 victory at AEK Athens, and has also played in both the Emirates FA Cup and the Carabao Cup this term.

Technical director David Weir lauded Hinshelwood as a “role model” for the club’s academy players.

“His journey is an inspiring one for all the players in our academy,” he said.

“His attitude on and off the pitch throughout his time at the club has been exemplary, the way he has transitioned into the first-team squad was impressive and we are all very proud of his progress.

“Were it not for injury he would have no doubt played a lot more first-team games this season, but we are looking forward to him being back ready for pre-season this summer.”
