NFL-Giants' Coughlin stepping down as head coach

NEW YORK, Jan 4 (Reuters) - New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said on Monday he is stepping down from his position after a 12-year reign with the team that produced two Super Bowl triumphs. Coughlin, who at 69 was the oldest coach in the National Football League, announced his decision a day after New York concluded their third consecutive losing campaign. "It is in the best interest of the organization that I step down as head coach," Coughlin said in a statement after meeting with the team owners. "I strongly believe the time is right for me and my family, and as I said, the Giants organization." (Reporting by Larry Fine; Editing by Frank Pingue)
