New York Giants NFL draft predictions according to latest expert mock drafts

The 2024 NFL Draft is just over one week away, and for the New York Giants, one thing is certain: bolstering the passing offense is a must.

New York holds the sixth overall pick in this year's draft and more than likely will look for an upgrade at either quarterback or wide receiver with the selection. The Giants finished 2023 with a 6-11 record and averaging fewer than 170 passing yards per game. Only the Carolina Panthers were less productive in the passing game.

Quarterback Daniel Jones' season-ending ACL injury did not help, though his performance before the injury – two touchdown passes and six interceptions in six games – was not promising either. New York has an "out" built into Jones' contract after the 2024 season.

Adding to the issue, the Giants have not had a 1,000-yard receiver since trading Odell Beckham Jr. after the 2018 season.

With the passing offense in clear need of an upgrade, here's who experts are saying the Giants might select with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

2024 NFL Draft: Giants prediction

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, USA TODAY: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Middlehurst-Schwartz writes, "[Team CEO] John Mara has given Big Blue brass the green light to make a bold move for a quarterback if there's one to leadership's liking. Regardless of whether the team actually pursues that route, there's a clear mandate to waken a dormant passing attack. The electric Nabers can do exactly that for a receiving corps that could lose tight end Darren Waller, who is still mulling retirement."

Dane Brugler, The Athletic: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Brugler writes, "I think the Giants will examine their trade-up options for a quarterback, but in this scenario, they stay put and add the true premier weapon they have been missing. Nabers would have been my No. 1 overall prospect in each of the last two draft classes."

Anonymous AFC North scout, ESPN: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

The scout said, "Only minor consideration to [quarterback] J.J. [McCarthy] here given the importance of the position and the team's need, but it's ultimately just too rich for me considering the top-end potential still on the board."

Will Brinson, CBS Sports: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Brinson writes, "Wouldn't be shocked if the Giants moved down (especially if someone wants to come up and get an OL) but if they stand pat, Nabers makes all the sense in the world. OBJ 2.0 vibes without the drama."

Peter Schrager, NFL Network: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

Schrager writes, "New York moves up two spots -- tossing Arizona this year's third-round pick (No. 70 overall) and next year's second-rounder -- to land McCarthy. This is merely a mock draft, but I could see this deal coming to fruition. Joe Schoen didn't draft Daniel Jones, J.J. checks a lot of boxes, and Big Blue can get out of Jones' contract after this upcoming season."
