A young boy cut off by the rising tide on rocks at a Cornish beach was safely rescued. The 10-year-old was stuck on a rock at Sandymouth Beach on the North Cornwall coast on Wednesday afternoon (April 17).

Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were called out shortly before 1.30pm, along with the Bude RNLI Lifeboat. Both crews rushed to the scene with specialist equipment to recue the stranded boy.

On arriving at the beach, near Bude, the designated rescue swimmer headed over to the rock the bring the boy back to safety. He was recovered by the swimmer and reunited with his family, Bude Coastguard Rescue Team said in a statement.

The coastguard team said in a statement: "Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were paged by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Falmouth at 13:28 today following the report of a 10-year-old boy stuck on a rock and cut off by the rising tide at Sandymouth Beach. The Bude RNLI Lifeboat was also tasked.

"Arriving on scene, the team quickly donned their water rescue equipment, including a drysuit for the designated rescue swimmer. Once on the beach, a Rescue Officer belayed the swimmer out to the rock, whereupon the casualty was made safe and then recovered back to the beach, and reunited with his family.

"Our thanks to the Bude RNLI Lifeboat and RWC crew for providing safety cover throughout the operation, and to the staff from the National Trust who relayed initial information to Falmouth MRCC and remained to keep watch over the casualty. Remember, if you see anyone in trouble on the coast, cliffs or sea, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
