Young cricket talents shine in recent Somerset Pathway matches

Thomas Rew was the top run scorer while Clemmie Lyon-Taylor and Ben Puzey were the pick of the bowlers in the Somerset Pathway matches that were played recently.

Playing for Somerset Under 16s, Thomas, who was recently selected to play for the England Under 19s, scored 151 from 117 balls with 14 fours and 10 sixes to aid his side to 302 all out in 47.5 overs against Berkshire.

During the course of his innings, Thomas added 124 for the second wicket with Ben Church who made 45, and 81 for the fourth with Oliver Coleman who hit 31.

When Berkshire replied they were all out for 136 in 27.4 overs, off-spinner Jago Barclay taking four for 27 from four overs, while Rishabh Shimpi ended with two for 38 and Harry Deering two for 15.

Playing for Somerset Girls Under 13s, Clemmie claimed five wickets for 18 runs in 5.1 overs as Wales were bowled out for 82 in 24 overs.

Somerset scored 184 for two from 24 overs, opener Emma Mason carrying her bat to end unbeaten on 93 off 76 balls with 10 fours, while Rose Grant Peterkin was not out 39.

Somerset Boys Under 15 Wyverns travelled to St Blazey to play two T20 matches against Cornwall Under 14s where, batting first, the hosts posted 131 for seven from their 20 overs.

For the visitors, Austin White claimed two for 11 while Luca Gregory took two for 14.

In reply, the visitors reached 114 for eight of which Luca contributed 58 off 51 balls with seven fours.

The second game saw Somerset batting first and posting 164 without loss thanks to Luca who ended unbeaten on 100 off 70 balls with nine fours and four sixes, while Charlie Ward was not out 39.

Cornwall, in reply, were all out for 112 in 18.1 overs, Austin White taking three for 19.

Somerset Under 14 Boys played their Hampshire counterparts who, after opting to bat, made 244 all out in 44.2 overs, Ben Puzey claiming five for 34 from his nine overs, while Danny Woolcott took two for 24.

Somerset, in reply, were all out for 101 in 26.1 overs, of which Harvey Coleman made 31.

The Somerset Boys Under 13s played against their Dorset counterparts who, batting first, were all out for 141 in 36.2 overs, James White taking four for 32, Alby Jackson two for 20 and Jack Randle two for 26.

The visitors replied with 143 for seven in 27 overs, William Blackmore top scoring with 31 while ‘keeper Harry Gillham made 23.
