A young goalkeeper with Cystic Fibrosis is celebrating a season where he recorded more clean sheets than Premier League record holder Petr Cech.

Morgan Coxhead, aged just 20 from St Austell in Cornwall, has had quite the season for Falmouth Town.

He boasted a stunning total of 25 clean sheets, which is one more than the former Arsenal and Chelsea star's 24.

Now he has aspirations of becoming the first-ever professional footballer with Cystic Fibrosis.

After joining Falmouth Town from Truro Reserves as their goalkeeper at the start of the 2023/24 season, Mr Coxhead has become a pivotal figure in the team's success.

He has contributed significantly to the local club's promotion into the Southern League, and he has played 50 league and cup games this season, keeping a clean sheet for half of them.

Mr Coxhead said: "Falmouth Town's manager, Westy (Andrew Westgarth), has made this season a series of firsts for me.

"He was determined to get me as his number one goalie, and his support since has been unwavering."

The young 'keeper also credits his first coach and first sponsor as major factors in his success.

Mr Coxhead added: "Firstly, having my first goalie coach has been a game changer.

"There’s no doubt it’s been hard work, but I think it’s paid off"

He continued: "Secondly, getting my first sponsor, having someone believe in me like that really bolstered my confidence."

Furthermore, Mr Coxhead praises the unwavering support he has received from Falmouth Town's ardent fans, known as the 'F-troop.'

He said: "Their vocal backing, even in the face of defeat, has been a source of immense motivation – not only for me but the entire team."

Wayne Roberts, Mr Coxhead's goalie coach, lavished praise on the 20-year-old.

He said: "I can’t stress enough how much effort Morgan puts into his sessions, week-in and week-out.

"I’ve pushed him more than any other keeper and he always gives it his all.

"It’s incredible to think he does all this while fighting Cystic Fibrosis."

In addition to his footballing prowess and fighting spirit, Mr Coxhead has enjoyed many other highlights in his career so far.

He relished the opportunity to participate in an ultra fitness challenge organised by his manager, get to the quarterfinals of the FA Vase, and even had a training session with the legendary David Seaman.

Mr Coxhead finished off with a word of gratitude to Mr Seaman.

He said: "David gave me a tip that I was able to use in a penalty save in our game against Bridgewater this season.

"It’s a game we won 4-1.

"Thanks David."

The young man's achievement this season is made all the more inspiring as he manages his condition with Cystic Fibrosis.

As the goalkeeper sets his sights on the upcoming Southern League season, there's no question he is set to impress yet again.
