SOUTHAMPTON under-21s goalkeeper Ollie Wright has joined Yeovil Town on a season-long loan ahead of the 2024/25 National League campaign.

The 21 year old signed a contract extension at the end of last season, penning a deal until 2026.

He did so having enjoyed a successful loan spell at Worthing during the second half of last term, helping them reach the National League South playoffs.

Wright also benefitted from training around Russell Martin's first-team last campaign and was a part of the travelling squad for the Championship playoff final.

Yeovil manager Mark Cooper said: "The process to finalise the deal was rigorous and required numerous presentations and conversations against other National League and Football League clubs to bring him here.

"Ollie has a commanding presence and made a strong impression when we faced him last season against Worthing.”

A statement on Southampton's website added: "The club wishes Ollie all the best and looks forward to monitoring his progress."

Wright had expressed his desire to leave the club on loan again this season in an interview with the Daily Echo.

The shot-stopper is keen to further his development and now takes a step up in joining a National League outfit.

Wright impressed Martin during the brief time they worked together following his return from Worthing.

On the youngster, Martin said: “Dean (Hammond, Worthing coach) was so pleased with Ollie and the personality that he brought onto the pitch. He has had a really good loan.

“Adli and him have trained with us every day. He has had a bit more experience than Adli so he became the third choice.

“He really enjoyed it. He doesn’t stop smiling, he is a really good character and a good goalkeeper as well.”
