Zimbabwe's Sean Williams Likely To Opt Away From International Cricket, Considers Uncertainty Over His Future

Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Williams who had been in fine form in the longer format during his short captaincy period has decided to stay away from international cricket. Sean Williams is one of the senior-most players of the side having made his debut in 2005 in the limited-overs format and is 34 years of age. Williams has played 14 Tests, 136 ODI, and 47 T20 internationals for his country.

Sean Williams is currently the test captain of the Zimbabwe side and has already hit three Test centuries in the last four tests he has played. He was named in the squads for the limited-overs tour of Ireland, but after completing his isolation period, he had informed the Zimbabwe cricket to not be considered for selection in the upcoming Ireland T20I series. However, he will be in consideration for the ODI series against Ireland after the tour gets over.

Sean Williams Cites Bio Bubble Fatigue Issues And Zimbabwe’s Future

According to the ESPN Cricinfo reports, Sean Williams has made up this decision on considering the Bio Bubble Fatigue Issues and the uncertainly over the future of the cricketers during these tough pandemic times. The quarantine protocols in every country haven’t been easy for the cricketers and it does involve a lot of mental stress with the isolation period.

Sean Williams also has looked up to the future of the Zimbabwe side in the 2023 World cup and he is currently unsatisfied with his country’s recent progress in international cricket under the coaching stint of Lalchand Rajput. Zimbabwe has managed to win just four One day matches in the last three years, and they are currently lying at the bottom of the World Super League table which might push their chances away from direct qualification.
