Football transfer news and rumours: 'Juventus turn down Chelsea's £88m move for Gonzalo Higuain'
Chelsea's search for a new striker to replace the eccentric Diego Costa have stalled with reports claiming that moves for Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata have either stalled or have had bids rejected. Turin newspaper Tuttosport claims that Antonio Conte's men have had their eye-watering £88m offer for Juventus striker Higuain turned down. Higuain only joined Juve last year in a then staggering £88m move from arch-rivals Napoli. Now, however, Chelsea are keen to snap up the 29-year-old, but their initial offer has been flatly rejected by the club's CEO Beppe Marotta. Chelsea have also pulled the plug on their pursuit of Morata, according to the Star. The west Londoners appeared ready to pay £63m for the Real Madrid player, but the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have had second thoughts, leaving AC Milan as frontrunners for his signature. Gazzetta dello Sport, however, believe that Anthony Martial may be used in a swap deal for the 28-year-old. United are also said to be considering a final offer for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier. Spurs have been playing hard ball in their desire to keep the England international, but the Daily Mirror claim that they are lining up a take it or leave it bid of £60m. United missed out on French striker Antoine Griezmann but they have since paid out the big bucks for Romelu Lukaku who scored his first goal for United in a pre-season friendly against Real Salt Lake overnight in America.
