Picture this: Teenagers who exploded into the world of football

With 18-year-old Marcus Rashford having netted two goals on both his Manchester United appearances, Yahoo Sport looks at some other teenagers who took football by storm.

Aged 17, Best scored his first Manchester United against Burnley in 1963 and a legend was born, a legend that stayed 11 years and scored 181 times in 474 appearances for the Red Devils where he won two League titles and a European Cup.

Aged just 17 years and 240 days when he broke Jimmy Greaves' record to become the youngest player to score a top-flight hat-trick in England, helping Southampton beat Arsenal 4-2 at The Dell. The rest is history as Shearer went on to win the Premier League with Blackburn, become Newcastle's record goalscorer and captain England. Finished with 379 goals plus 30 from 63 matches for his country.

Aged 16 years and 356 days, Milner became the youngest scorer in Premier League history in 2003 when he netted against Sunderland for Leeds. Has since played for Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool and is a permanent fixture in Roy Hodgson's England plans.

Having scored for Brazil aged just 16 years and nine months, Edson Arantes do Nascimento became the youngest player to score at the World Cup when he netted twice against Sweden in the 1958 final, his flick-over-the-defender-and-volley strike rated one of the best goals in the history of the tournament. Went on to win the World Cup three times and netted 1088 goals in 1115 career appearances.

By the time he scored the winning goal for Manchester United in the 1986 FA Cup Final, 20-year-old Whiteside was already a veteran of three seasons and a World Cup for Northern Ireland. Eight days his 17th birthday he became the Reds’ youngest-ever scorer when he netted against Stoke and aged 17 years and 323 days he became the youngest-ever scorer in a League Cup Final. After eight years at Old Trafford Whiteside moved to Everton but injury forced his retirement in 1991 aged just 26.

Aged just 16 years and 271 days, Vaughan usurped James Milner as the Premier League's youngest-ever scorer when he netted for Everton against Crystal Palace on 10 April 2005. Injury has sadly dominated his career, and since 2009 he has been a bit of nomad, playing for Derby, Leicester, Palace, Norwich, Huddersfield and Bimingham but he has still managed 52 goals in 214 games.

Brought on by Manchester United aged 17 against Aston Villa on April 5 2009, Macheda grabbed the winning goal in injury time as the Reds went on to win the Premier League title. Since then he has drifted to Sampdoria , QPR, VfB Stuttgart, Doncaster and Birmingham before settling at Cardiff. Now has 27 goals from 142 career matches.

After scoring the winning goal for Leeds against Liverpool at Anfield aged just 18 - with his first touch after coming on as a sub – Smith was immediately paired with the likes of Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink and Mark Viduka.Never really fulfilled expectations after six years at Elland Road, three at Manchester United and five with Newcastle. Scored 71 goals from 486 appearances plus one for England.

Owen netted on his Liverpool debut aged 17 in 1997 but really exploded into world football at the 1998 World Cup when he scored a solo wonder goal against Argentina. Injury hampered his career but he ended up with 40 goals from 89 matches for England along with 222 goals in 482 club matches.

Burst onto the scene for Chelsea against Tottenham aged 17 in 1957, scoring on his debut, and went on hit 22 goals that season. Had a glittering career for Chelsea, Spurs, Milan and West Ham and holds the record for the most goals scored in the English top flight - 357. Also struck 44 times in 57 matches for England for whom he notched a record six hat-tricks.

England's first £1m footballer made his name for Birmingham City when, aged just 16, he scored four times in a Division One match against Bolton Wanderers. Went on to chalk up 175 goals in 483 matches in England, 18 while in Italy and 12 from 52 England caps.

Aged 17, Fowler netted five times for Liverpool against Fulham in the League Cup and scored a hat-trick against Southampton in only his fifth match aged 18. Became an Anfield legend in 10 seasons with the club and also played for Leeds, Manchester City and Blackburn. In all netted 230 goals in 515 matches, plus seven from 26 England appearances.

Made his professional debut aged just 15 and scored his first goal at 16, the same age he was when he first played for Argentina. He scored his first international goal against Scotland aged 18. Scored 312 goals in 588 club appearances plus another 34 in 91 games for his country. Inspired Argentina to win the 1986 World Cup, played in the 1990 final and won a host of honours for Napoli and Barcelona.

On 19 October 2002, five days before his 17th birthday, Wayne Rooney scored a last-minute winning goal against Arsenal to end the Gunners' 30-match unbeaten run. The Roonster had arrived and has now scored more goals for England than any other player - and he is closing in on Bobby Charlton's Manchester United record too.
