World Cup day two: Ronaldo stars in thriller, Uruguay break Egypt hearts, own goal sinks Morocco

Mo Salah watched from the bench as Egypt succumbed to a late defeat to Uruguay on day two of the World Cup.

The Liverpool star had been passed fit to play, but didn’t even make it off the bench in the Group A clash, which the South Americans snatched at the death thanks to Jose Gimenez’s header.

In the afternoon’s second clash, an injury time own goal from Aziz Bouhaddouz condemned Morocco to a 1-0 defeat against Iran.

But the undoubted highlight of the World Cup so far came when Group B heavyweights Spain and Portugal rounded out day two’s action with a thrilling 3-3 draw in Sochi.

It made a mockery of claims that Los Riojas are in disarray after sacking their manager on the eve of the tournament – with Yahoo’s Spain superfan on ‘The 32’ claiming they may not even get out of their group.
