Shark launches extendable portable fan shoppers are calling a 'game changer'

We have a feeling Shark's new fan is going to fly off the shelves this summer. (Shark / Yahoo Life UK)

Finding a good fan to see you through the summer months is no easy feat, largely because there are a lot of factors at play that determine whether a fan is actually good. There's the all-important question of volume — is it quiet, or does it make a distracting sound while on? Then there's what sort of settings it has, whether it's extendable, its oscillation levels, and whether it's corded or cordless. The list goes on. Which is why in the current saturated market, it can be difficult to find a design that ticks all the boxes. Well, at least, that's what we thought.

Brand-new for 2024, Shark has launched its first-ever fan: the Shark FlexBreeze Portable Fan.

The cooling solution you need this summer, complete with a lightweight build, long-lasting battery life, and multiple fan modes.

Innovative in design and standing out from the rest, the new fan comes with eight different modes, an extendable, lift-away mechanism that transforms it from pedestal or tabletop fan in seconds, a water mister, timer, rechargeable battery pack and, according to shoppers, near-silent operation.

Certainly not coming cheap at £199.99 (although competing models cost up to £550), it does make up for the cost in functionality, ease of use and cooling capabilities.

First things first, it's sleek in design. Featuring a sophisticated, all-black construction, it's UV-safe and water-resistant, tough enough to be used indoors as well as outdoors, and subtle enough to suit most interiors.

You have eight combinations to choose from: corded or cordless, tabletop or pedestal, outdoors or indoors, with or without the water mister, making it super versatile and adaptable to the space you're in.

The misting attachment in particular even claims to cool outdoor spaces by up to five degrees.

Most importantly, it's ultra-quiet. Whether you're working from home, watching the TV or sleeping, you pretty much won't hear a thing. And this is a big deal as far as fans go, especially when most designs come with a unruly rumble.

For endless power, simply plug it in as normal, or go cordless for up to 24 hours on a full charge.

Depending on the heat levels, you can choose between five cooling speeds, as well as varying gentle or strong airflows.

Not just that, it comes with an LED display and remote control for ease, together with a durable fan cover for when it's not in use. Shark really haven't missed a thing!

Shoppers can't sing this fan's praises enough, with dozens upon dozens describing it as very quite, cooling, and easy to use. Here's what a few John Lewis shoppers had to say:

  • "Just got this fan and it's sooooo quiet I didn't think it would be as good as the reviews but it is! Easy to put together and very well packaged."

  • "Only just received mine, and weather is not hot yet, but a lovely cool breeze even on the lowest setting, and most importantly... almost completely silent. Not a sound. Very quiet even on the 2nd of 5 settings. Definitely able to sleep with this on all night. Very well made and well packaged. Remote control, different speeds, different oscillation angles. Excellent product, worth every penny. Can also be cordless if plug sockets are an issue. The real test will be in very hot weather and hot nights, but I'm sure this fan will be a game changer. So glad I bought this."

  • "Love the design - you can have a desk fan or pedestal. It's also very quiet and has lots of different settings to use. Great little remote with it too. Even better you can unplug and use without a cable. Really very good."

  • "Quietest fan we've owned. Easy to assemble. Like that it converts from a floor standing to a tabletop fan. Handy that can plug in and charge it so can then use it in areas with no nearby sockets. Only available in black at time of writing this review, a white option would be good."

  • "Very easy to put together. Excellent air flow from the fan and easily controlled with the remote. Also being able to use without plugging into the mains is a real plus. I cannot comment on the water misting attachment as it has not been used."
