Last animals from Kharkiv zoo evacuated

STORY: Video released on Wednesday (April 13) by Mykhailo Lysenko showed two bears in cages being loaded onto the back of a truck before beginning their journey.

Lysenko wrote alongside the video that their mission had been accomplished and all animals from the Kharkiv Ecopark had now been removed.

Feldman Ecopark said the animals had to be evacuated because they were located very close to the war zone and had been under constant shelling and bombing from Russian military since the war began.

The Ecopark said it has been rehoming its animals after three staff members were killed by bombs and dozens others were wounded when they tried to feed the animals.

Almost 100 animals were killed as well, some while trying to escape, according to the park.
