Snow Reduces Visibility Near Northern California Summit

Scattered thunderstorms, rain and snow showers moved through northern California on Tuesday, February 21, with video showing the reduced visibility in elevated areas.

This footage was filmed by photojournalist Alekz Londos, who said he captured it near the Donner Summit at 6 pm on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service said a “major” winter storm was expected to bring heavy snow from the west coast to the northeast through Thursday. The service said travel could be “very difficult to impossible” in parts of northern California from Tuesday to Saturday. Credit: Alekz Londos via Storyful

- So here's the current conditions on Donner Summit I-80 eastbound. What do you think? Pretty impressive? Treacherous? Intriguing?

A lot of snow, right? Low visibility, could barely see the guardrail. Definitely can't see the dotted yellow line in the middle of the road.

A few miles back and a few miles before I put chains on, there was someone pulled over on the side of the road. Apparently, he didn't have any chains in his vehicle and he was headed directly towards this snow storm.

Anyways, I don't know if you could also tell, there's not a lot of tire tracks going through this area ahead of the group, the amount of people putting on chains. And the only person that has passed me was a Highway Patrol. All right, I'm going to get back to driving and stay focused. Later.
