Alternative PL Preview: Mourinho's Klopp mask, Wenger to hijack a celebration and more

Jose Mourinho to wear a Jurgen Klopp mask at the King Power Stadium

After years of mistreating officials, Jose Mourinho is now complaining that officials are mistreating him. The Manchester United boss claims he gets punished for things other managers get away with it, explicitly pointing the finger at Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte.

Indeed, Mourinho probably would have frogmarched out of the sport altogether had he screamed in the face of the fourth official like Klopp did on Tuesday night. And so the Man Utd boss will wear a Klopp mask for Sunday’s trip to the King Power Stadium. Maybe then he’ll be get away with being a general jackass on the touchline.

Arsene Wenger to ask John Terry for advice on how to hijack another team’s title celebration

It had all been going so well for Steve Bould, sitting in the Arsenal hot seat in the absence of manager Arsene Wenger, who is serving a four-match touchline ban. Until Tuesday night, that is when Watford happened. Now Wenger faces the possibility of watching Chelsea’s de facto title coronation on Saturday from the stands, powerless.

A home win would give the Blues a surely unassailable 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League. Should that happen Chelsea might as well start tying their ribbons on the trophy. Wenger will seek advice from another figure stuck in the stands, though. John Terry knows how to gatecrash a title celebration. If you can’t beat them, join them… and hope that nobody notices.

West Brom to tease Saido Berahino by wearing shirts with the Premier League table printed on

After years of sulking and hulking Saido Berahino finally got his move away from West Brom. Finally, he’s on to bigger and better things… at Stoke City. No, it’s not quite Spurs but at least he is now closer to White Hart Lane. This is a progression of Peter Odemwingie theory – if he gets close enough to his desired club maybe they’ll just sign him.

West Brom’s players will get some special shirts made up for their home clash against the Potters on Saturday, though. In place of the sponsor there will be the current Premier League table instead, showing West Brom ahead of Stoke City by four clear points. Bigger and better things? You might got things a big mixed up there, Saido.

The back seat on the Liverpool team bus will be left for Sadio Mane

Never before has a player been welcomed back from AFCON like Sadio Mane was earlier this week. Liverpool hired a private plane to get the winger back to Merseyside as quickly as possible. Against Chelsea on Tuesday night, though, he couldn’t make the difference, coming off the bench as the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw.

However, Mane is still key to Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four and so he must be given preferential treatment. The back seat on the team bus for this weekend’s trip to Hull will be left free for him. Everyone knows the most important person sits at the back of the bus.

Pep Guardiola to ask Kaka if he can borrow one of his ‘I Belong to Jesus’ shirts

Manchester City are finally playing like a Pep Guardiola team and it’s all down to one player – Gabriel Jesus. The January signing has made all the difference, giving his new side the final third fluidity and adaptability they have been lacking all season long.

Guardiola owes a lot to Jesus, to such an extent that he will pay tribute to the Brazilian during Sunday’s matcha against Swansea City. He’ll ask to borrow one of Kaka’s famous ‘I Belong to Jesus’ t-shirts, proudly displaying it on the touchline. The attacker’s arrival at Etihad Stadium isn’t quite divine intervention, but for Guardiola it’s not far off.
