A resurgent Arsenal welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates Stadium in a Premier League London derby this evening.

The Gunners were in dire straits heading into Christmas, with talk of a relegation battle, but the Boxing Day triumph over Chelsea has sparked a run of four straight wins in all competitions.

Mikel Areta has put his faith in youth, with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe in terrific form, and the pair came off the bench to inspire Saturday’s extra-time FA Cup win over Newcastle.

Palace, meanwhile, were knocked out of the cup by Wolves on Friday night but had returned to winning ways in the league prior to that with a 2-0 success against bottom club Sheffield United.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace is scheduled for an 8pm kick-off on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

The match will be played behind closed doors at the Emirates Stadium because of current coronavirus restrictions.

Team news

Arsenal could welcome Thomas Partey back into the squad for the first time since last year’s north London derby defeat against Tottenham, while Gabriel is also back in contention having been sidelined with Covid.

Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli is out after hurting his ankle in the warm-up ahead of the win over Newcastle but the injury is not as bad as first feared.

Defender Mamadou Sakho is a doubt for the Eagles having injured his thigh in the FA Cup defeat to Wolves, while it remains to be seen whether Eberechi Eze will play after being fined for going to watch QPR play at the weekend.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace prediction: 1-0 home win

The Gunners have found solidity at the back in recent weeks and with Palace usually similarly well-organised under Roy Hodgson this could be a tight affair.

With the likes of Smith Rowe, Saka and Alexandre Lacazette in good form, the Gunners may just have the firepower to edge it.
