Brendan Rodgers Celtic kit man meltdown 'showed control' before Aberdeen penalties

Brendan Rodgers' reaction to Celtic kit man Stevie Wright's involvement before penalties against Aberdeen has been applauded.

The Hoops manager unleashed his anger at Wright for speaking to midfielder Paulo Bernardo before the Scottish Cup semi-final shootout at Hampden last weekend. It had been an enthralling 3-3 draw after extra-time and took spot-kicks to take Celts through with Joe Hart the hero. But the tension looked to become a bit much for Rodgers who let his staffer have it before eventually cooling down to watch from the sidelines.

For ex-defender Charlie Mulgrew, he reckons it was a "brilliant" moment from the boss as he was able to show to his squad who was the man in charge.

And speaking on Open Goal, Mulgrew commended the Northern Irishman for his reaction.

He said: "I thought it was brilliant from Rodgers. It showed a man who was in control of that situation.

“For me, I thought it was brilliant.”

Mulgrew is currently awaiting a response from his old club about their under-18s head coach role. Football Scotland understands he has interviewed twice for the position and faces a battle from another former player in Jonny Hayes.
