Chelsea provided the ideal response to their first loss under Thomas Tuchel as they beat FC Porto in the Champions League.

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell were both on target for the Blues, who bounced back from their embarrassing domestic defeat by West Brom to take firm control of their quarter-final tie on neutral ground in Seville.

Standard Sport’s James Robson runs the rule over Chelsea’s performance at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium...

Edouard Mendy 7

Reacted sharply to prevent a corner going straight in and then denied Moussa Marega with his legs in the second half.

Cesar Azpilicueta 9

A real captain’s performance from the only remaining member of the back three from the West Brom defeat. Important blocks on Pepe and Jesus Manuel Corona kept Porto at bay.

Andreas Christensen 8

Crucial early block to deny Luis Diaz at a time when Porto looked comfortable. Thiago Silva has a fight on his hands to get back in.

Antonio Rudiger 7

Caught out by Marega and was grateful for Mendy’s intervention. Important figure at the back as Chelsea tried to withstand Porto’s aerial threat from set-pieces.

Reece James 7

Worked hard to be an attacking outlet on the right as Chelsea looked to hit it long to the corner. Delivery could have been better.

Jorginho 7

Perfectly-weighted pass to open up a water-tight Porto defence for Mount’s opening goal. That quality was crucial against such well-drilled opponents.

Mateo Kovacic 7

Really hard-working display to give Chelsea some control in the middle and offer a shield against a threatening Porto side.

Ben Chilwell 6

Put in a huge shift as he held a high line, but got back in support well – and then still had the energy to burst forward and double Chelsea’s lead.

Mason Mount 8

Wonderful goal gave Chelsea a vital lead. How they needed that moment of magic on a night when chances were few and far between.

Kai Havertz 5

Deployed at the point of Chelsea’s attack, but looked completely lost. Little to no impact, summed up by his failure to convert from five yards. The offside flag spared his blushes on that occasion.

Timo Werner 5

Fewer touches than any player in the first half – including goalkeepers. Had the chance to add to Chelsea’s lead after the break, but could not keep his header down.

No doubting the effort, but it’s just not happening.

Christian Pulisic (Werner, 65’) 5

So close to doubling Chelsea’s lead with a strike that hit the bar.

Olivier Giroud (Havertz, 65’) 5

Gave Chelsea’s attack a different look and had an impact in setting up Pulisic to hit the bar.

N’Golo Kante (Mount, 80’) 5

Came on to see out the win – but his driving forward runs were more of a feature to stretch tired Porto legs.

Thiago Silva (James, 80’) 4

Porto were at their least threatening when he came on to see out the win.

Emerson (Kovacic, 90+2’)

Subs not used: Kepa, Caballero, Alonso, Zouma, Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech, Abraham.
