Edinson Cavani is on Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri’s wishlist

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is keeping a close eye on Edinson Cavani’s situation at PSG as he looks for a new frontman, according to France Football.

Although Sarri has enjoyed a fine start to life at Stamford Bridge, neither Alvaro Morata or Olivier Giroud are deemed good enough for a team fighting at the top of the Premier League.

The PSG forward is yet to receive a new contract offer, with his current deal running out in the summer of 2020.

Cavani will be 33 by then and the expectation is that he will be able to sign one final big contract before his playing career winds down.

Chelsea have a policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over the age of 30, which could force David Luiz out and is unlikely to entice Cavani.

But Giroud has only found the net once in the Premier League this season, while Morata has scored five times in the league but does not look happy in west London or good enough to lead the line in England.

Cavani has not played in England but his career goalscoring record of 322 goals in 516 competitive club games is phenomenal.

Although he is still a regular for the French giants, the exploits of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe mean Cavani is less vital to PSG and the lack of a contract offer could play into Chelsea’s hands.

Cavani left two years before Sarri took over at Napoli, but he will have heard first-hand from former team-mates just how deadly the Uruguayan in front of goal.
