Christian Eriksen hints at Spurs exit: 'I might want to try something new'

Christian Eriksen has suggested he is ready to leave Tottenham Hotspur, telling a Danish newspaper: “I might want to try something new.”

The midfielder joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013 and has been integral to the club’s on-field success, including their run to a first-ever Champions League final.

But following that 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in Madrid last weekend, it now seems Spurs have been dealt a fresh blow with the news that Eriksen is eyeing an exit.

“I have the greatest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham but I have also said that I would like to try something new.,” the 27-year-old told Ekstra Bladet.

"I hope there will be a clarification during the summer. That's the plan. In football you do not know when that comes. It can happen anytime. Everyone prefers it if it happens as soon as possible, but in football things take time.

"I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new. It depends on Daniel Levy and another club has to come. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can't set a date yourself."

Eriksen was talking while on international duty with Denmark ahead of Friday’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Ireland.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with the playmaker, who has one year remaining on his current contract.

Spurs must decide whether to sell Eriksen this summer or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months should he decided against penning a new deal at White Hart Lane.
