Daily Fantasy: Champions League Gameweek 7 review: Robben, Alcantara star as Messi and Suarez flop

We’re halfway through the Champions League Round of 16 first leg ties, with two of the ties evenly poised and two of the ties seemingly over before the second leg even kicks off.

Arsenal and Barcelona have mountains to climb after their respective 5-1 and 4-0 losses to Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund will be hopeful of overturning their 1-0 deficit at home to Benfica and Real Madrid will travel to Napoli with a 3-1 advantage. But what did that mean for Daily Fantasy points?

Paris Saint-Germain 4 Barcelona 0

In the biggest shock of the round, PSG demolished the much-vaunted Barcelona, managing to keep the famed ‘MSN’ trio quiet, overrun Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta in midfield and overwhelm Gerard Pique and co in defence. The result? An avalanche of goals and Daily Fantasy points. Four PSG players – midfielders Angel Di Maria (24.50 points) and Julian Draxler (17.70) and defenders Layvin Kurzawa (12.10) and Thomas Meunier (11.40) – all made the Dreamteam, while a fifth – Edinson Cavani (16.10) – missed out by the smallest of margins to Lorenzo Insigne. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp also recorded double figures, scoring 11.50. However, for Barcelona it was a nightmare. Neymar top scored with 6.20 for the Catalans, with Gerard Pique second with 6, while popular selections Andres Iniesta (5.50), Luis Suarez (0.90) and Marc-Andre ter Stegen (1) all had poor games. Even Lionel Messi wasn’t immune, the multiple Ballon d’Or winner was selected by 69% of players but only scored 3.40 points.

Benfica 1 Borussia Dortmund 0

A combination of a hatful of missed chances and the form of Ederson in goal ensured Benfica will travel to Borussia Dortmund with a precious advantage. Benfica’s rearguard performance ensured Ederson (20.50 points) and defender Lusiao (12.30) made the Dreamteam, while Kostas Mitroglou’s goal ensured he scored 10.30 points. But there were slightly disappointing returns for popular selections Nelsinho (6.30), Pizzi (4.90) and Eduardo Salvio (2.30). For Dortmund, only defender Lukasz Piszczek broke double figures, scoring 11 points, but there were poor returns for several popular players. Marco Reus, Raphael Guerreiro, and Erik Durm all scored less than 6 points, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a paltry 0.30 and goalkeeper Roman Burki recorded negative points with -0.50.

Bayern Munich 5 Arsenal 1

Bayern’s crushing win over Arsenal ensured it was happy days for your Daily Fantasy team if you stacked it with the Bavarians. No less than 7 players broke the double figure barrier (but no defenders), but surprisingly only 2 (Thiago Alcantara and Arjen Robben) made the Dreamteam. Alcantara was top scorer for the round with 31.70, while Robben was second overall with 25.40 and Robert Lewandowski was third with 15.90. Arturo Vidal (14.90), Douglas Costa (11.10), Manuel Neuer (11) and Thomas Muller (10.60) also all scored more than 10 points. However, Mats Hummels was picked by 30% of players but could only score 2.70 points. For Arsenal though, it was a nightmare evening in Germany with no-one scoring double figures. Surprisingly, Mesut Ozil was top scorer with 9.90 and Alexis Sanchez scored 8.50…Laurent Koscielny was 3rd with 3.80 – and he went off injured early. David Ospina was hardly at fault for any of Bayern’s 5 goals but he still scored -1.

Real Madrid 3 Napoli 1

Real Madrid’s come-from-behind win over Napoli ensured there were healthy Fantasy returns for several Los Blancos. Defensive midfielder Casemiro was the surprise top-scorer for Zinedine Zidane’s men, scoring an impressive 19.20 points, while Karim Benzema (18.60) and Toni Kroos (15.80) were not far behind. However, several popular players – Cristiano Ronaldo (61%, 9.50 points), Marcelo (31%, 4.40), Keylor Navas (21%, 3.50) and Sergio Ramos (37%, 1.10) – all had very poor returns. As for Napoli, Lorenzo Insigne’s wonder-strike to give Napoli the lead saw him make the Dreamteam with 16.10 points. Marek Hamsik was second with 8.90 points. Dries Mertens was selected by more than 46% of players, but could only score a disappointing 3.80 points.
