Must-Haves

Defenders

Everton have been doing pretty well of late, bagging 5 clean sheets from their last 8, and they were unbeaten in the league in 2017 before their trip to White Hart Lane last weekend. In addition to those clean sheets, Seamus Coleman has helped himself to 4 assists and a goal, making him an important choice for any fantasy team recently. With a game against West Brom, we fancy him to make it 9 consecutive weeks with either attacking or clean sheet point returns. Across Merseyside, Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield this gameweek so we imagine Nathaniel Clyne and co. will be looking forward to this one, despite Burnley coming out victorious last time these 2 met in the league. It is a risky option due to Liverpool only claiming 1 clean sheet from their last 8 games but if they were to pick the game they have the best chance in grabbing another from, it would be a against Sean Dyche’s men.

Midfielders

Michail Antonio was suspended as West Ham lost out to league leaders Chelsea at the London stadium. However, he is back for the trip down south to Bournemouth this Saturday and we expect there to be a lot of goals. Bournemouth are managing to put goals away but have been extremely poor in keeping clean sheets and seeing out games lately so we think Antonio is a good shout on his return to the Hammers. Our penultimate midfield option for this week is Sadio Mane. 3 goals and an assist in his last 3 games doesn’t tell the full story for this guy. He has been absolutely pivotal to Liverpool’s attack recently and they will surely be leaning on him again this Sunday when Burnley visit Anfield. No clean sheet in 4 for Burnley and the worst away record in the league is good reading for Liverpool fans and Mane so expect some attacking returns from this guy this week. Finally, we finish with Gylfi Sigurdsson. The facts and figures speak for themselves when it comes to this man – 3 goals and 4 assists in the last 6 games for a side who is fighting a relegation battle down in 16th is astonishing. I needn’t say any more about that one, a no-brainer, especially since the Swans face a winnable game against Hull City.

Forwards

Up top and continuing the Swansea theme, we have Fernando Llorente. 5 goals from Swansea’s last 6 fixtures, a run which included away games at Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, is incredible. With Sigurdsson just behind him, they have certainly become a power duo in recent weeks and could possibly be Swansea’s answer to their relegation worries. They face off against a Hull side this week that have only kept 3 clean sheets all season so do expect a return from this man. Bournemouth’s Josh King has been in great form with 4 goals in 4 games. Despite a winless run of 8 games, Bournemouth have only failed to score in 2 of those games so Josh will be one to watch this week against West Ham. Our final must-have for the week is of course Romelu Lukaku. 6 goals in Everton’s last 4 speaks volumes and facing his old club West Brom, a team who have only 1 clean sheet from their last 5, will be very appealing to him. If you need any other reason, he’ll have the Goodison faithful behind him too, so surely Everton are going to get some sort of attacking return and it should come through this man.

Must-Nots

Defenders

Now looking at the fixtures, we would’ve put a West Brom defender in here but based on recent form, they’d probably end up scoring if we did!. Therefore, we’ve selected our picks from 3 other teams this week, starting with Bournemouth. No clean sheet or win in 8 games is bad reading for Charlie Daniels and co. so if you’re looking for clean sheets from your defence (which we reckon you are), he is worth avoiding. Their opposition, West Ham, aren’t in much better shape either having not won a clean sheet in their last 6. This is precisely the reason we expect goals from this game and therefore Jose Fonte and co. are all worth avoiding this time out. Our final must-not defender is Ben Mee, who faces the seemingly impossible task of keeping out a rampant Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. Again, Burnley’s clean sheet record recently isn’t good reading as they are without 1 in 4 games. I would safely bank on that becoming 5 by Sunday evening.

Midfielders

Attacking must-nots are somewhat of a challenge this week as we do expect there to be goals from near enough all sides, however, there are 2 sides we would bank on to miss out on high attacking returns. Continuing our Burnley theme this week is George Boyd. No goal since December 10th (in fact his only goal all season!) and only the 1 assist since then (again, in fact his only assist all season!) means we don’t expect Boyd to put too much of a dent in Liverpool’s defensive line. The other team we would suggest avoiding when it comes to attacking returns this week would be West Brom and therefore our must-not this week is Darren Fletcher. Despite doubling the season returns for goals and assists of our other must-not, George Boyd, we don’t expect the West Brom attacking line to trouble Everton’s back 4 this week.

Forwards

2 goals out last week against Swansea and a goal and an assist last time his side faced Liverpool are stats that go in favour of the Burnley striker Andre Gray, but Burnley now face the Merseyside club away from home which is a critical factor when determining the result in Burnley games this season. Gray’s 2 goals last week was his first attacking return in 5 weeks but we can’t see him repeating this feat against the Reds. Our final pick this week, Salomon Rondon, despite playing in every single one of the last 11 West Brom games, has failed to score in any of those games since December 14th. The hat-trick against Swansea back In December seems to have drained the forward of his goalscoring potential and considering his fixture, he is a big no-no for this gameweek.
