Gareth Southgate will name his England squad for this summer's Euro 2020 tournament on May 25, it has been confirmed.

The Three Lions boss will be able to name a larger than usual squad of 26 players after the UEFA decided to boost the numbers from 23 "in order to guarantee the smooth running and continuity of the competition in light of the Covid-19 pandemic".

Southgate faces a headache over the involvement of players from Chelsea and Manchester City - the two Champions League finalists - as well as Manchester United, who play in the Europa League final.

The England manager wants to give all player at least a seven-day break between the end of the domestic season and joining up with the squad, meaning those with European commitments could miss warm-up games against Austria and Romania at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium.

With the squad size being enlarged, a few difficult calls have been made easier for Southgate - though there remain a number of injury concerns.

Jordan Henderson and Jack Grealish have not played since February while Declan Rice has been absent since March. Harry Maguire was forced off over the weekend with an ankle injury.

England will base themselves at Tottenham’s Enfield training ground, Hotspur Way, between their group games against Scotland and Czech Republic on June 22, rather than travelling back to their midlands base, St. George’s Park.
