Chelsea defender Malang Sarr is currently back at his former club Nice as he gears up for the new season.

Sarr failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Blues last season, having been frozen out of the squad, and later saw a loan move to Le Havre collapse during the January transfer window.

He had spent the previous season on loan at Monaco, who opted against making a permanent move for the centre-back, and was temporarily on the books of Porto in 2020/21.

Hitting out at Chelsea for their treatment of Sarr after being denied a loan move for the 25-year-old earlier this year, Le Havre sporting director Mathieu Bodmer said: "They are the directors of the club with six English league titles, now owned by the American Todd Boehly. With just a few details still to be worked out, they did a U-turn. They gave the youngster the go-ahead to travel, and a financial agreement had been reached for the eighteen months of his remaining contract at Chelsea.

“Everything was OK, the contract had even been submitted to the League (LFP), but we never received Chelsea’s cancellation. In the end, they just told him he wouldn’t be leaving."

Sarr did not play a single match during Mauricio Pochettino's reign and the Argentine coach appeared dumbfounded during a press conference after being quizzed on the defender's whereabouts. Sarr later liked an Instagram post confirming Pochettino's exit from the club, perhaps signalling his thoughts on the 52-year-old.

In his latest move on social media, Sarr has uploaded an image of Nice's training ground with the caption of 'home'. It remains to be seen what Enzo Maresca's plans are for the Chelsea squad member, who could well be moved on after a somewhat difficult spell at the club.
