Yahoo Daily Fantasy Gameweek 14 must have players...and those to avoid

Gameweek 14 must-haves and must-nots

Gameweek 14 is fast approaching and this weekend sees some thrilling fixtures, all kicking off with arguably the best of them all, Manchester City versus Chelsea. The Saturday lunch time kick off slot hosts a clash between first and third place in the league, as they battle it out for that top spot.

With that all being said, many fantasy football managers will be re-shuffling their teams and picking their captains ahead of the weekend’s action, but who do you bring in and who do you avoid? Here we have provided a pick to bring in from each outfield position and a pick to also avoid.

[5 BUDGET-FRIENDLY OPTIONS FOR GAMEWEEK 14]

Best of luck with those fantasy teams and without further ado; let’s get on with the selections.

Must-haves

Forward – Charlie Austin
The Saints striker looks to be back to his best and with Southampton facing a Crystal Palace side who let in 5 last week, some form of Southampton attacking coverage is surely a must. Last week Charlie Austin bagged the only goal in a tight 1-0 victory over Everton, however with the Englishman rested midweek, he will be ready to increase his goal tally of 9 in all competitions). Back in 2014/15, Charlie Austin was in most fantasy football teams as he picked up a total of 18 goals that season with QPR and this season, he is well on his way to that tally. Crystal Palace on the other hand have conceded 26 goals this campaign, averaging 2 a game, which bodes well for those brining in the Southampton forward.

Midfielder – Marko Arnautovic

This weekend Stoke face Burnley at home and Burnley are just awful away from home, as they have conceded 13 goals in their 5 away games! Therefore, it would be wise to bring some Stoke coverage into those fantasy football teams this weekend and who better to take a punt on than Marko Arnautovic. He may not be in the best of form, but he has the potential to score some huge fantasy points on odd gameweeks. This could be his week and if you don’t bring him in for his fantasy potential, then take a look at his hair! If only he put as much effort into his training as he does looking after his hair! All jokes aside, Arnie has had 25 shots on goal, hitting the woodwork twice and scoring once. Pitching in with a solitary assist, the Stoke midfielder could have a big fantasy football weekend against Burnley.

Defender – Kyle Walker
Spurs were unbeaten until last week and in that run they had kept 6 clean sheets in those 12 games. This week Spurs face Swansea, who although scored 4 goals last week, will struggle against an in form Spurs side. Not only is there a clean sheet on the cards for Walker, but the defender is often found high up the pitch, attempting to chip in with the odd goal or assist. So far this season, Walker has put in 33 crosses and chipped in with 2 assists, but he will be looking to increase this with a match up against Swansea on the cards!

‘Must-nots’

Forward – Jamie Vardy
Jamie Vardy was a monster in front of goal last season, scoring 24 goals and creating 6, all in the space of 36 games; an impressive record. However, Vardy hasn’t been able to replicate this form so far this campaign, with only the 2 goals and 2 assists in his 13 appearances. Whether it be teams sitting further back or defenders doubling up on the striker, he just can’t buy a goal at the moment. With Champions League qualification distractions over, Vardy could be worth a punt, but it may be wise to avoid him for a week or two whilst he tries to find that form he had last season.

Midfielder – Raheem Sterling

After what was a brilliant start to the season by Sterling, the City midfielder appears to have reverted to the form he possessed last season. With no fantasy football returns since gameweek 6, many will ship or will have already shipped him out of their fantasy football teams. The return of Yaya Toure and good form from the likes of Gundogan and De Bruyne will make it even harder for Raheem Sterling to flourish this coming weekend. With 4 goals and 2 assists in the first 6 weeks, Sterling looked to be back to his best, but this hasn’t materialised and he shouldn’t be one to consider this week.

Defender – Gary Cahill
Another popular fantasy football pick is the English centre back, Gary Cahill. This week, Chelsea will be facing Manchester City and quite frankly, neither team are likely to keep a clean sheet in the lunch time kick off. Both teams are scoring for fun, whether it be Sergio Aguero, Diego Costa or Eden Hazard, there could well be plenty of goals in this one. This coupled with Cahill’s inability to really provide any attacking fantasy football returns (other than his only goal this season), he would be one to avoid this week.
