Good turnout of Lostockers take on the mud at Worden

Last Saturday saw a fantastic turnout out of 17 Lostockers taking part in the fifth race of the road/trail championship - the extremely muddy Worden Parkrun, writes Rachel Stevens.

This event is a relatively new addition to the parkrun family with the first event taking place in October last year, and is a two-lap course with a fast start on good asphalt paths, then straight into the muddy fields, through woods, round a ridiculously muddy football pitch and then back on to the paths.

Lostock AC’s contingent joined 132 runners completing the course. Andy Laycock was first across the finish line in 23mins 59secs, securing 11th position and second in his age category.

Next was Hazel Hatfield in 24:16, finishing second female and first in her age category.

Sunday saw three Lostock members taking on the gruelling challenge of the Manchester Marathon - an epic run with 22,300 runners taking part.

The 26.2-mile run starts at Old Trafford with runners first heading to Deansgate and the city centre before heading out to Stretford, Sale, Altrincham and then back towards Old Trafford via Timperley, Baguley and Sale Moor.

The first to cross the finish line for the club in an impressive 3:25:10 was David Parry.

On Saturday, the Parrys had won the family Grand National sweepstake with the horse ‘I am Maximus’, and this became his mantra for the race around the streets of Manchester.

He was also given a boost seeing his wife and daughter at 19 miles.

Next to cross the finish line was Melonie Crompton in 4:01:05. Crompton had a fabulous run, stooping to hug her children at mile 18.

Also on Sunday, Johanna McManus took part in her second race of the weekend, completing the Mersey Tunnel 10k.

As the name suggests, the race starts in Liverpool city centre and then travels through the Kingsway tunnel to New Brighton and then back through to centre of Liverpool.

McManus had a fantastic race, completing it in 48:21.
