Gossip: PSG 'swoop for Morata' as Conte's Chelsea crisis deepens, Griezmann to 'replace' Barcelona star

Alvaro Morata is being linked with a Chelsea exit
Alvaro Morata is being linked with a Chelsea exit

By the time you read this, it may be too late. Antonio Conte would have already been sacked.

At least that’s what the Express said would happen if Chelsea lost to Watford – which they did, emphatically – but strangely there is no confirmation in today’s Express about Conte getting the boot.

So maybe they got it wrong – which is liable to happen sometimes when your paper’s entire editorial strategy is based on writing stories with no facts in them.

But who knows, maybe Conte will indeed be gone by tea-time – the Express still claims his job is “hanging by a thread”. And following the Italian out of the Stamford Bridge exit door, allegedly, could be Alvaro Morata.

The Mirror says the Blues striker has emerged as a “shock target” for Paris Saint-Germain – the main shock being that a team with Cavani, Neymar and Mbappe up front would want to buy a new forward who has scored just three goals in his past 15 games.

But they do, apparently, which would very annoying for Conte (or his successor) given than Chelsea just spent an entire transfer window trying to sign a back-up striker to the Spaniard.

On the plus side, maybe this means they could now sign Andy Carroll as a back-up to Olivier Giroud. A terrifying front line if ever there was one.

Griezmann to replace Dembele at Barcelona

Manchester United’s pursuit of Antoine Griezmann looks deader than ever, with the Atletico Madrid forward on the brink of agreeing a summer move to Barcelona (Express).

The Frenchman’s arrival at the Nou Camp could reportedly result in Barca offloading £135m man Ousmane Dembele. It was never going to work out after they realised in his unveiling that he couldn’t even do keepy-ups.

The Red Devils appear to have a better chance of landing Colombian wonderkid Wilson Tilve, who has been dubbed “the new James Rodriguez” and has been handed a trial at Old Trafford (Mail).

The most exciting thing about this potential signing is that the 16-year-old midfielder’s name is one letter away from being a perfect anagram of Clive Wilson. And if he’s half as good as the former Queens Park Rangers left-back, United could have a player on their hands.
