Gossip: Tottenham 'target £3m Evans', Man Utd 'offer Pogba in exchange for Neymar', Juventus 'drop Bellerin interest'

Tottenham could be about to make a huge swoop for West Brom defender Jonny Evans… for a bargain £3m
Tottenham could be about to make a huge swoop for West Brom defender Jonny Evans… for a bargain £3m

It’s been an eventful season for Jonny Evans. But it could have been so much more eventful.

At various points, he has been on the verge of a £25m move to Arsenal, a £30m move to Manchester City and a stunning World Cup qualification with Northern Ireland.

But in reality, all that has actually happened is that he has participated in a dreadful West Bromwich Albion relegation campaign and stolen a taxi from a Drive-Thru McDonald’s in Barcelona.

But there could yet be happy ending to this story, so long as Jonny downgrades his expectations slightly and swaps that £30m transfer to Man City for a £3m switch to Tottenham.

The Telegraph reports that Spurs are ready to sign the 30-year-old centre-back for a cut-price fee this summer, due to a relegation clause in his Baggies contract, and view him as a replacement for contract rebel Toby Alderweireld.

And while no one would pretend that Evans is as good as the Belgian, he would certainly be a lot cheaper, which could be just the ticket for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy at a time when Tottenham’s financial situation has led them to fleece their own loyal fans with huge season ticket price hikes.

The only problem for any club trying to sign Evans this summer is that he will be so cheap that everyone will want him. The Telegraph adds that Manchester United are considering re-signing their ex-defender, while Arsenal “could try again” too.

Red Devils ready to pay £261m for Neymar

Man Utd are allegedly trying to sign everyone at the moment though. For instance, Neymar.

The Express contains a fantastical report which claims the Brazilian could move to Old Trafford from Paris Saint-Germain this summer in part-exchange for Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are apparently willing to pay a world record £261m for the Brazil forward and hand him an annual salary of £30m, which is even more than Alexis Sanchez earns.

Neymar has been repeatedly linked with Real Madrid, but United believe they have an “ace up their sleeve” in Pogba and will offer the French midfielder to PSG as a “makeweight” to smooth over the deal.

Meanwhile, there is some rare good transfer news for Arsenal fans, as Goal reports that Juventus have “ditched” their long-standing interest in Gunners right-back Hector Bellerin and will instead move for Man Utd’s Matteo Darmian. Yes, really.

But the Arsenal news doesn’t stay good for long, because the Standard claims attacking flop Lucas Perez wants to return to the Emirates and “revive” his Gunners career after a loan move to Deportivo La Coruna “turned into a nightmare”.

Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid and France forward Antoine Griezmann wants his future “sorted” before the World Cup amid interest from Barcelona (Sky Sports), PSG want Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri to be their next manager (ESPN) and Bordeaux forward Malcom has fuelled speculation of a move to Tottenham by revealing that he is having English lessons (Mirror). Although that could just be because he wants to watch Only Fools and Horses without the subtitles.
