Rangers Fan View: Hamilton defeat was a throwback to McCoist years

That was arguably Rangers’ worst performance all season – only the Progres defeat in Luxembourg comes close to it.

We were absolutely awful. We played not too bad in the first half in fairness. If Alfredo Morelos had his scoring touch, we’d have won that game. Unfortunately, I look more like scoring from my seat in the Govan than he does just now. But the boy was still a threat by getting in behind and giving Hamilton’s backline some issues.

I found the fact that Graeme Murty took him off for Ryan Hardie absolutely shocking. That wasn’t the only thing he got wrong. The side looked completely unprepared and frankly, for large spells, we seemed to have no coherent plan, much like the dark days under Ally McCoist in the Championship.

When we went one down, he had no answer whatsoever. None. That’s the reason why the people calling him to given the job full-time are absolutely wrong. He looked like a youth coach yesterday and sadly at this point in his career, that’s exactly what’s he is.

The wider problem, however, is the ‘tried and trusted’ players who Murty went back to: the likes of Kenny Miller, Danny Wilson and Jason Holt failed him. Yes, Holt and Wilson have played well in the two previous matches but both of them, along with Lee Hodson were excruciatingly poor.

When you put trust in Danny Wilson, he always has a habit of having an absolute stinker. He was all over the place from the opening minutes and his long-range passing was more of a danger to the fans in the stands rather than Hamilton. When Alves is fit, he has to play. We have to stop kidding ourselves that players who have failed time after time will be good enough to take us forward.

Miller is finished. Absolutely finished. He offered as much to the game as the girl working at the food kiosk. His constant ‘roaming’ is now beginning more than ever to make me angry. Caixinha called that one right and the new manager must end his Rangers career as his first act. I’m sick of watching him pretending to be a playmaker. Maybe he should’ve dressed up as one for Halloween because that’s the closest he’ll ever get to being one.

On the goals, I feel sorry for young Ross McCrorie. He played one under-hit pass and we were punished. The second was a complete shambles. But after those goals went in, we went into hit-and-hope mode. Pathetic.

It’s up to the board now to act swiftly. We cannot go into the Dundee game with this lax attitude, so I hope they manage to appoint a new manager ASAP – by that I mean this week.

I’ve seen enough of the dithering from the board and the ‘safe pair of hands’ in the dugout. We need a proper manager and we need him now. Yesterday was the kick up the rear end the board needed. They need to get the finger out so we avoid a repeat of this ridiculous performance at Dens Park on Friday night.
