Hugo Lloris could lose Tottenham captaincy following drink driving charge

Hugo Lloris could be stripped of the Tottenham captaincy following his drink driving charge.

Lloris was arrested in London in the early hours of Friday morning, and is due to appear in court next month.

The 31-year-old, who led France to World Cup glory in Russia this summer, also faces a £240,000 club fine and could have the armband taken away.

Lloris released a statement shortly after the news broke, in which he apologised to his family, club, teammates, manager and supporters.

“Drink driving is completely unacceptable,” he said. “I take the full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.”

Lloris was held in a police cell for seven hours on Friday morning, and missed Tottenham training later that day.

He is expected however to be in the Spurs team for their clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.
