I'm nervous about Arne Slot's move to Liverpool - I keep thinking he might be another Erik ten Hag

Arne Slot looks towards former Ajax manager and current Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag in 2021

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant admits he is concerned expected new manager Arne Slot will fall into the same pitfalls as Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Slot, who has managed exclusively in the Netherlands to this point, is primed to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield next season. The German head coach announced his departure at the beginning of this year after losing energy for the role.

Upon his arrival in the Premier League, Slot may resume a rivalry with United's manager, Erik ten Hag. The pair crossed paths in the Eredivisie when the latter managed Ajax.

However, Ten Hag's future at Old Trafford is uncertain after a poor second season in England. New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is thought to be unimpressed by United's performances this campaign and the 54-year-old is understood to be hold onto his job by the skin of his teeth.

Speaking to FastestOnlinePayoutCasino.com, Pennant is hopeful Slot can perform with the Reds but is fearful that he will suffer as Ten Hag has.

"I’m a little bit nervous about Arne Slot," he explained. "No disrespect to the Eredivisie, it’s not really a competitive league, we’re seeing Ten Hag get to the Champions League [semi-finals], getting knocked out by Tottenham but winning the league multiple times.

"Now he’s going to get the sack at Manchester United, who have been nowhere near where they should be. It’s such a big step up for a massive club and I keep thinking, is this going to be another Ten Hag?

"Liverpool are in a better situation than United were when Ten Hag took over, but I’m still a little bit sceptical. He’s failed to please the United fans. I don’t see a decline at Liverpool like the one David Moyes had with Manchester United.

"Nobody thought Liverpool would be where they are after the season they had last season, new signings have gelled in quickly. So I don’t see a Moyes decline, it’s about the manager getting the right philosophy for the club."
