India Will Win The Series 4-0 Or 3-1 As England Is A ‘Two And A Half Men’ Kind Of A Team, Reckons Sunil Gavaskar

India’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar called the Joe Root-led England cricket team as a ‘two and a half men’ after they lost the second Test against India by 151 runs at Lord’s on Monday.

Despite entering the final day with the tag of favourites to win the Lord’s Test, England batters wilted in the final two sessions, folding their innings on 120. England skipper Joe Root once again top-scored with 33, it seemed as if the hosts would easily force a draw but after Root’s dismissal, there was no hope for it.

Gavaskar thinks England is heavily dependent on Root for scoring runs and when it comes to taking wickets they look to their senior-most player James Anderson.

“England is a two-man team. It’s just Joe Root and Jimmy Anderson. With the greatest of respect to all who are playing there, it doesn’t look like a proper Test team,” Gavaskar said on Sony Sports Network after the Lord’s Test.

“Jonny Bairstow, yes if he gets going or otherwise it’s nothing. Buttler, he is a fine white-ball player. I’m not too sure he is there for red-ball cricket,” Gavaskar added.

Anderson picked his prolonged career’s seventh five-wicket haul at Lord’s in the first innings but turned wicketless in the second, where India’s tail-enders troubled the England bowlers with the late flow of runs.

Mohammed Shami (56*) and Jasprit Bumrah (34*) built an unbeaten partnership of 89 runs to escalate India’s lead to 270 runs. Mark Wood (3/51) was the best performer from the England side but even he couldn’t do enough on the final day. Gavaskar predicted that India will win the five-match series by 4-0 or 3-1 because of the lack of intent showed by the England team.

“In bowling, there was just Jimmy Anderson and there was nobody else. Robinson got five wickets in Trent Bridge but it’s really a ‘two and a half men’ kind of a team.

“That’s why I think India will win the remaining three matches of the series. I had said at the beginning of the series that India should win it 4-0 or 3-1 and I still believe that result is possible if rain doesn’t spoilsport,” Gavaskar said.
