Aston Villa Fan View: Jack Grealish is the Prince of Villa Park

In a game that a month ago looked like a potential shoot out for the automatic promotion spots to the Premier League, its a massive shame that one of the best goals I’ve ever seen in recent times is likely to count for very little.

Grealish saved Aston Villa, and Steve Bruce from yet another 90 minutes without a win, a run which has seen Villa blow their chances of an automatic promotion spot.

Jack Grealish wonder strike volley from 20 yards out in the 85th minute sent Villa Park into rapturous celebration. Grealish, who was playing his 7th league game on the trot, his longest run in the team since 2015, which outlines his injury problems and inconsistent performances.

There is no doubt that now Grealish is a reformed player, and Villa’s biggest asset in the push for promotion. The Villa fan and academy graduate is the player that is pulling the strings at Villa Park, and is the only player in the current squad that could have pulled off such a stunning trike. His transfer market value could be north £20m, which may come into play if Aston Villa are in the Championship next season – lets not discuss that just yet!

When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and Grealish has been the standout player in the Villa team that has completely derailed in the past month. His touch, vision, passing and now strength has made Grealish one of the best players in the Championship, and could step up to the Premier League with ease.

He’s still only 22 and with his natural talent, he could go to the very top. But before that, Villa need him and I am sure he is desperate to drag his club up to the Premier League.

He will need help of course, and seeing Jonathan Kodjia slowly returning to fitness is a shot in the arm for Villa, who have become goal shy and lacked a cutting edge in the past month. Robert Snodgrass and Albert Adomah are sorely in need of a rest, likewise for Grealish as well.

Hopefully Villa can secure 3rd or 4th place quickly, and are able to rotate in the last game of the season before 3 (hopefully) hectic games. The fans, manager and players will look back on this season with regret, as Villa are just 5 points off the automatic promotion spot, and not winning any of the games against QPR, Hull, Bolton or Norwich is nothing short of head scratching, given they have beaten Wolves and Cardiff in the last 5 weeks.

Villa next play Leeds on Friday night at Villa Park, which is live on Sky (again) at 7:45pm.
