James Forrest answers Scotland Euro 2024 question as Celtic form sparks debate

James Forrest would love to be on the plane to Germany this summer but insists he hasn't given it much thought.

The Celtic winger was the star of the show as they overcame a sticky opponent in Dundee yesterday, his double ensuring an own goal from Adam Idah didn't come back to bite them. The first goal was a stunning volley from outside the box while the second was a good finish too.

He had come on to score in the semi-final win over Aberdeen and made a change to the momentum in the game with his performance and his recent form has sparked a bit of debate about whether he should be included in Steve Clarke's squad for Euro 2024 after not playing since the last Euros.

Forrest insists it's not something that's been on his mind but at the same time he would jump at the chance. So far, he has not booked a holiday once the season finishes as you never know what could happen.

“I have not thought about it once," he insisted. “You never book a holiday early in this game, it’s always last minute.

"If you ask any Scottish player, you’d want to be involved. I went to the last Euros and it was a great experience from the first day of camp to the end. My last cap was at the Euros. But I need to concentrate on what I am doing here.”

Forrest was struggling to make matchday squads at times but continued to work hard to force his way back in.

“I wasn't in the squad in January/February time and I have been buzzing being back in about it with the boys,” he said. “I have managed to get on the scoresheet and help the team a few times. I just want to take it game by game and keep helping out here.”

“I knew that if I kept training well I was thinking to myself that I might get another chance. In the last five or six weeks I have got back in and I need to keep doing that to remain a part of it.”

Yesterday, we saw Pat Bonner writing off the chances of a recall as Forrest's time at international level is up.

But Michael Stewart insisted the 32-year-old SHOULD be on the plane as he can cover right wing-back as well as further forward.
