Liverpool midfielder suffers another injury blow as season ended early

Teenage midfielder Bobby Clark has revealed an encouraging season at Liverpool has been brought to a premature end by injury.

Clark, who became a first-team squad regular and featured in the League Cup final win over Chelsea in February, will sit out the remaining weeks of the campaign after suffering a back problem.

The 19-year-old midfielder signed a new long-term deal in December having missed the first four months of the campaign through injury after impressing during pre-season.

On returning to fitness, Clark made 12 senior appearances for the Reds, including a first Premier League start in the win at Nottingham Forest in March and a European debut at Sparta Prague before scoring his first senior goal in the return leg.

The teenager has been featuring for the under-21 side in recent weeks and played in the 2-0 home Premier League 2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. But he will now be missing for the play-off first round game against Crystal Palace on Sunday at Kirkby, along with first-team games against Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Wolves.

"Unfortunately my season has come to an end early due to injury," said Clark on social media on Wednesday. "Time to focus on getting back fit for the new season."
