Barcelona change Luis Diaz transfer stance to fulfil 'lifelong dream' ahead of Liverpool rebuild

Luis Diaz of Liverpool

Luis Diaz continues to be heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer.

Diaz joined the Reds in January 2022 in a deal potentially worth £49 million from Porto, with Liverpool beating Tottenham Hotspur to his signature. The Colombia international has gone on to play a major role in winning three major trophies for the club, scoring 24 goals in 97 appearances.

However, this season has seen Diaz score just eight goals in the Premier League and 13 in all competitions. Recent weeks have seen the 27-year-old linked with a move away from Anfield, with Barcelona seemingly a potential destination.

A fresh report from Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Diaz remains the player that Barcelona are determined to sign to strengthen their wide forward options. Reports elsewhere recently claimed that the La Liga giants deemed a deal for Diaz as unlikely due to Liverpool's potential price tag.

However, this latest report has stated that Barcelona are getting ready to make a move to try and bring Diaz to the Camp Nou to fulfil a "lifelong dream" for the player. With that being said, the Spanish club are also said to have drawn up alternative targets including Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, Porto star Pepe and RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo in case a move doesn't materialise.

Diaz recently opened up on his future at Liverpool, where he stated that he is happy at the club. The Colombia international went on to explain how he has improved as a player during his time at Anfield.

“I have grown a lot," Diaz said in a recent interview with Liverpoolfc.com. "From the beginning of my career to today, I feel that with the passage of days, of years, living each experience in each different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, leaves you with a lot of learnings.

“You learn more and more to be a professional, to be a better person, to be a good team-mate and a good guy. The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that.

“Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100%, to always stand out on the field, which is what I came [here] to do. I’m always grateful to God for every opportunity.”
