Philippe Coutinho has stunned Liverpool by reportedly demanding to leave the club.

The 25-year-old Brazil star has been linked with a huge-money move to Barcelona but the Reds have consistently said they would sell him.

Coutinho had already been ruled out of Liverpool’s opening Premier League match this weekend against Watford at Vicarage Road with a back injury.

Barcelona have already had two offers rejected – the latest one said to around £90m – and Coutinho has remained silent throughout.

But now he appears to told the club he wants out of Anfield with a transfer request submitted personally via email, it is understood.

But although the club have denied this, Sky Sports are reporting that a family member told them:

“Philippe has tried very hard to find an amicable solution but to no avail. He has tremendous love for the club and fans but as Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez have pointed out in the past, Liverpool does not let its players leave on amicable terms.”

Klopp today dismissed the notion that it is his responsibility to keep Coutinho happy at Anfield.

“I can’t keep players happy. I can’t keep you happy. That’s how life is. It’s just that Phil is not available for us and for me that’s the bigger issue. The rest is between me and all the boys.”

Coutinho scored 13 goals and assisted seven more in 31 Premier League appearances last term, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side finish fourth.
