Local soccer falls out of the postseason

Mar. 27—HUNTSVILLE — After rigorous regular seasons, Huntsville High School saw both of its soccer programs advance to the postseason.

On the boys' side, the Hornets had missed the postseason for the previous five seasons. The gap took place after making a region final in 2018.

For the girls' it was the second time in 11 years to make the playoffs and the first time under the direction of Michael Van Wagner.

Unfortunately for both squads, they dropped their bi-district games and saw their seasons come to a close.

The Hornets(9-8-5, 4-3-3 District 16, 5A) battled Longview, who was the District 15 champion. While the Hornets took to the pitch with no pressure to get the win, the Lobos (20-4, 14-0 District 15, 5A) squeaked out the 1-0 win.

Longview was able to score in the first half and the Hornets were unable to make it back up.

The Lady Hornets traveled to Tyler for their bi-district matchup against Mount Pleasant for their second trip in 11 years.

With a strong season and a third-place finish, the Lady Hornets were bested in the bi-district round.

Mt. Pleasant took the game 3-1 as the Lady Hornets comeback bid fell short.
